What makes a car a design icon? This countdown looks at recognizable proportions, a clear response to an engineering brief, and the endurance of a visual identity. We selected ten production-car families spanning city cars, utility vehicles and sports cars, then ordered them editorially by the strength and longevity of their design language. It is not a ranking of speed, safety, sales or investment value. Historical dates were checked against manufacturer archives on 5 October 2026; those archives establish origins, while the aesthetic judgments are ours. Photographs may show later versions of the original design.
