Unveiled at the New York World’s Fair on 17 April 1964, the Mustang gave sporting aspirations a clear visual shorthand. Its long bonnet, compact rear and assertive front make the proportions do much of the work. We include the original family for this balance between drama and everyday use, rather than for a performance record. Later generations reinterpret the theme, so “Mustang” describes a lineage, not one unchanged body.
