Volkswagen added the Type 2 to its range in 1950. Its box-like passenger and cargo space contrasts with the original Beetle, yet the rounded nose and split windscreen give the early T1 a personality of its own. We include this van family because utility design can be as memorable as sports-car styling. Passenger and camper adaptations show how one basic shape can support several ways of travelling.
