The Jungfrau–Aletsch region preserves an extensive glacial mountain landscape, including the Alps’ largest glacier. It helps explain both mountain formation and the changing effects of climate. We rank it second because the scenery is also a readable record of geological processes. Appreciate glaciers from designated viewpoints unless properly equipped and guided for glacier travel; a retreating ice landscape is dynamic, not a fixed backdrop.
